Steven Jackson writes intimate, quirky, folk-rock which is no small part influenced by:
- early years playing punk music in Alabama's seedy biker bars.
- finding out from the Replacements, the Smiths, Willie Nelson, etc ... that you can write sensitive, introspective songs without being a nerd
- getting really drunk and making out with girlfriend's roommate (in front of girlfriend) while at a Connells / Toad the Wet Sprocket show
- playing bass in southern rock band Passing Through - fronted by American Idol Taylor Hicks - in 1996-1998
- graduating with a degree in journalism from Auburn University
- marrying his high school sweetheart - long after high school
- having an accident involving an oyster bed and bare feet - realizing he is mortal
- seeing & hearing Doc Watson, Steve Earle, John Hiatt & Nanci Griffith in the span of a few hours
- touring the country's college & club circuit (NACA) for 6 years - playing in concert halls & beside salad bars at universities in every state
- developing stage fright, social anxiety & taking an indefinite break from touring (see previous bullet for clarification)
- fathering 2 amazing children who sing just because they know the song'll never sound that sweet again
- being obsessed with lack of sleep for about 5 years (see previous bullet for clarification)
- trying to figure out what it all means
Beginning in 1999, Steven began releasing intimate folk-rock recordings that prompted Paste Magazine to say Jackson "writes words more beautiful, evocative & true than you could ever find yourself."
